Evergreen refers to keywords that are able to be used in any set.

Details[]

They are not thematically tied to a block by story or types of races, so can be printed on a wide variety of cards.

Many of these keywords each featured early in the game's history in the Beginner's Block (with the exception of Saver.)

Some later keywords appeared that were soon featured in the majority sets after their release.

  • As the older keywords were strongly associated with civilizations (Light: 'Blocker', Darkness: 'Slayer', Fire: 'Speed Attacker'), these civilizations help balance this fact (Water: 'Justdiver', Nature: 'Mach Fighter').
    • 'Guardman' appears in the Fire and Nature civilizations as a weaker form of 'Blocker', appearing in the 3 other monocolored civilizations.

List of Evergreen Keywords[]

Blocker Blocker (Whenever an opponent's creature attacks, you may tap this creature to stop the attack. Then the 2 creatures battle.)
Power Attacker +N (While attacking, this creature gets +N power.)
Saver: "RACE" (When one of your "RACE" would be destroyed, you may destroy this creature instead.)
Shield Trigger Shield trigger (When this spell is put into your hand from your shield zone, you may cast it immediately for no cost.)
Shield Trigger Shield trigger (When this creature is put into your hand from your shield zone, you may summon it immediately for no cost.)
Slayer (Whenever this creature battles, destroy the other creature after the battle.)
Speed attacker (This creature doesn't get summoning sickness.)

Later Additions[]

Guardman (You may tap this creature to change the attack target of your opponent's creature from your other creatures to this creature.)
Guard Strike Guard Strike (When you add this CARD TYPE from your shield zone to your hand, you may reveal it to your opponent and choose one of your opponent's creatures. That creature can't attack this turn.)
Justdiver (When you put this creature, it can't be chosen by your opponent and can't be attacked until the start of your next turn.)
Mach Fighter (This creature can attack tapped or untapped creatures on the turn you put it.)
