This sets name is a reference to the cultural phrase "Yamato-Tamashii (Soul)," which refers to 'Japanese spirit.' It is a phrase often used in reference to the strong-willed spirit of the Japanese, and is even used to describe the fighting spirit of the nation at times. In this case, "Yamato Tamashii" refers to the 'samurai spirit' that embodies the Samurai race of cards present in this set.
